Inopeplus sp., female
Moved from Inopeplus reclusus. Genus ID confirmed from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Lisa, great find!

I'm confused by the distinctions between the two described species, so I feel genus level is the best place for now.

Inopeplus reclusus (LeConte), female
Species ID using key in (1). My confusion was due to a comment on another photo (953537). The comment there directly contradicts the text in Ciegler's book, so the species name there must have got mixed up somehow.

...that being said, it's a very cool bug!

Moved from ID Request.

either a rove or...

several roves subfamilies contain very flat beetles but those tend to be more elongated, except in Omaliinae

Thanks
Will try for better ones.

when did you post the dorsal??
while i was hopelessly trying to figure it out from the two useless lateral shots? my my my...
with beetle, you may or may not post oblique of lateral views (they rarely make a difference, with some notable exceptions), but a dorsal is always critical and must always go first in a series

please load the dorsal into this form to replace what's here now

Sorry
And thank you very much.
And you are very good!!
