Mike Quinn called my attention to the "hitch-hikers" ... if you look closely, you will see one for each leg. So my first question is, what is the identity of the host?

must see a dorsal to tell; ALWAYS critical with beetles
lateral shots alone are all but useless
best guess, Xylotrechus sagittatus, but it's totally off the record

I do not typically photograph beetles, so the advice is useful! Now I know that it is a beetle and not a cricket ... 8-) This beetle was climbing throughout the attempt to photograph, if that is of any help. It was always trying to reach the top of the sheet. The lateral view was the best for photographing the critters on its legs, and I only got ONE shot.
