Water Bug - Benacus griseus

Water Bug - Benacus griseus
Reading, Pennsylvania, USA
June 12, 2014
A friend of mine found this (not-so) little dude in her garden a few days ago. psweet on Whatbird ID'd it as Water Bug, but thought you folks over here might be able to provide more info as to species, habits, and why it might be in a flower garden? Thanks in advance.

yes, a giant water bug, Lethocerus sp.

They are attracted to lights, so maybe there was a light near the garden?

BugGuide also doesn't have any photos of this genus from PA in June, but wait for an expert.
