very interesting.

Looks like a flannel moth to me.
Compare this one - the general shape and the bump on the side of the cocoon is the same. Hag moths have longer appendages. What's the story here - did you find it in the act of pupating?

that's it. Found cocoon, opened and removed in hopes of ID and cotinued development series.
