Great Black Wasp? - Sphex pensylvanicus - Female

I have tentatively I.D.'d this rather intimidating and quite large bluish/black insect as a Great Black Wasp. Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

Yes.
Nice images of a female specimen.

Wondering...
I thought I would try to figure this out myself but after looking at pictures of my female Great Black Wasp and pictures of the male Great Black Wasp, I'm just not seeing a difference. How did you know?

Thanks!
Carol
