Platycryptus? - Platycryptus californicus

Platycryptus? - Platycryptus californicus
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
January 28, 2007
This little spider was immobile on our ceiling for at least an hour (don't know how long it had been there before we arrived). It looks like it was molting. I don't think I've ever seen a jumping spider in my house in the middle of winter.

Moved
Moved from Platycryptus arizonensis.

Platycryptus californicus suggested by G.B. Edwards, who obviously knows more about these beasts than myself.

Moved
Moved from Platycryptus.

While waiting
for an expert opinion, compare it with this species.

That...
image may need to be re-evaluated, could be a Platycryptus, maybe P.californicus.

It
seems to be a light Platy, maybe one of the less known species.

Location...
would suggest P. arizonensis. Often found on window screens (inside and out). Not a bad house guest, feeds on less welcome visitors.

Thanks.
Thanks for the ID.

Inside...
spiders really appreciate a finger-flick of water, winter is extra dry inside. Some will learn to hang out in a cerain location waiting for a drink. Something to amuse oneself while waiting for above freezing temperatures. ;)>

Long wait...
And this one certainly has had a long wait for above-freezing daytime temperatures!
