Cucullia convexipennis caterpillar - Cucullia

Cucullia convexipennis caterpillar - Cucullia
Pikes Peak foothills, Teller County, Colorado, USA
September 1, 1989
Size: 2 1/2 inches +
Is this a Brown Hooded Owlet Moth caterpillar [Cucullia convexipennis) ?? Found feeding on an aster growing at 9200 ft, aspen / spruce forest area in the Pikes Peak foothills of Colorado. Thanks.

We have seen this identified somewhere online
as a color variant of convexipennis, but have never been able to find any confirmation of that. We photographed something similar in Mesa Verde, see , and have thought of it as Cucullia, but have never gotten a firm ID. Hope someone else jumps in. We could use some serious help with the caterpillars sitting on the genus page for Cucullia.

Thanks guys, your input is appreciated. Your picture looks very close with more muted coloration.
