Caddisfly - Rhyacophila

Caddisfly - Rhyacophila
Jim Thorpe, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 24, 2006
Size: 1/2 "
It's hard to see here-but the back of the body was greenish/blue (aqua sort of) metallic looking. Darn thing flew away before I could get a better shot

Moved from Caddisflies.

Probably a green sedge
Based only on size, color, date, and general appearance, I'd guess that this is probably one of the Rhyacophila. (B. appalachia is a late April/early May emerger in your area, and has plain wings that change from nearly white to tannish grey as it ages.)

Brachycentrus ?
I think caddisfly is probably correct. Brachycentrus is a genus known in your area. I'm not sure of which ssp occur in your area, but one possibility may be Brachycentrus appalachia, which has the blue/green abdomen.

given uncertainty as to further ID, I'm moving to the Trichoptera page by now, pending further info.
