Found in a little woodland clearing. Josh Rose identified this as an Atomosia, but after perusing images on the web, it seems to be one of the Laphria canis complex. See Internet references under guide, and Herschel Raney's comments on Troy's photo:



It has captured a prey item, which I can't make out--perhaps a small dipteran or homopteran with rather long wings. The abdomen is just visible on the robber fly--this looks like a male to me, but I'm not sure.
