Lady Beetle - Harmonia axyridis

Lady Beetle - Harmonia axyridis
Kirkland, King County, Washington, USA
November 1, 2013
A small lady beetle (no more than 5 mm, if memory serves me correctly); very dark in appearance with large, blotchy, connected dark spots on a subtle, streaky/spotted, reddish-orange background; a black protonum with curving white edge and a white band between the eyes. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos--it was a dark day in November and I'm not in the habit of using my flash--but hope that the general shapes and colors of this particular beetle are sufficiently clear for identification purposes.

This photo has been enhanced slightly to better show detail.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Relatively unusual specimen, but this species varies dramatically from one specimen to the next.

Definitely Different!
Thanks for the ID! I've seen a number of different variations of red/orange ones around my house and saw some of the other dark variations in the guide, so knew that not all Harmonia axydris look the same, but never would have guessed that this was also a Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle. Well, glad it's part of the guide now for the next person who finds this unusual color variation.
