Different flies?
This looks male, the second female.
This one may have expanded hind tarsi. As far as I know the only species likely to be found in Maine with that character is
Condylostylus connectans
, which has dark femora. If the hind tarsi are normal, it looks like
Condylostylus flavipes
.
