See other. I cropped Liv's photo of the small spider at the posterior end of the Metepeira. The sequence of her photos shows the spider moving in to the posterior end, then around to the front.
The very minimal retreat of the labyrinth shows only a little silk, peels of madrone bark, and some prey remains.
