Mite, Tarsonemidae ???

Mite, Tarsonemidae ???
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
June 23, 2006
Very interesting this note from Dr. Wojciech Magowski here. I wonder if the small white insect walking just in the middle of this Pediopsis tiliae eye is of the same kind. When I rescue insects from the swimming pool, I often find these tiny white creatures walking on the rescued insect. I have always thought that they were scavengers.

Mite, Tarsonemidae ??? Mite, Tarsonemidae ???

Dr. Magowski says:
The mite pictured here is not anything like tarsonemid or heterostig in general. It looks like some larva of Prostigmata or Mesostigmata but I can't see details. Some agile mites can just climb and walk on anything, including insects, but this does not indicate any biological relationship, at most the co-existence in the same environment.

Parasitiformes ??
Thanks Jim to get this comment! I am not familiar with these insects. Do you think it could be moved to the Parasitiformes guide page? I'll try to get better shots next summer.

Hi Claude,
I am unclear what has happened to Prostigmata in the new Acari Project classification. I don't know if they are in Parasitiformes. Until we get that sorted out it might be best to leave this in Acari.
