Wichita - residential neighborhood within a mile of the Arkansas River, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA
October 17, 2005
Called an "Irregular, late summer immigrant..." (Ely, Schwilling & Rolfs, "An annotated list of the butterflies of Kansas," 1986, Fort Hays State University Studies, Third Series (Science) Number 7), this southwestern butterfly can sometimes be found as far northeast as northeastern Kansas. The Bordered Patch has shown up in our yard in Wichita the past two years (2005-2006), in October, feeding on a patch of late-blooming asters.

Nice butterflies!
I notice the dates are 2005. Are you still shooting in the Wichita area? I visit my son in Wichita a couple times a year and like to shoot at Great Plains Nature Center and Sedgwick Co. Park, which is near his house. Maybe we could get together. (I think there are two more Bug Guide contributors in the area.)
