Hyalophora gloveri - Hyalophora columbia - male

Hyalophora gloveri - Hyalophora columbia - Male
Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
July 22, 2006

Congrats!
Color is much better, plus this is a first for Arizona, as far as I can tell.

Hyalophora columbia gloveri (south Arizona)
If you can manage a series of specimens from each of the various mountain groups in southern Arizona (Santa Ritas, Patagonia, Peloncillo, Atascosa, Huachuca, etc.), you'll see some surprises in variation and some shared tendencies among individuals collected at the same or adjacent localities. I have collected quite a few specimens from Cochise, Santa Cruz, and Pima Counties and am always excited to see a new one. I have found the material from lower elevations near Lake Pena Blanca to be the most interesting,..smaller and paler...and I've only seen 4 from there.

later,
bill
