Hodges #6655 - Esther Moth - Hypagyrtis esther - female

Hodges #6655 - Esther Moth - Hypagyrtis esther - Female
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
July 8, 2014
Size: forewing ~18mm
Attracted to black light. On images Hypagyrtis esther and Hypagyrtis unipunctata usually cannot be distinguished from another, but I interpret Covell's comments in his Field Guide to Moiths to suggest that melanic forms without any light spot near the apex of the forewings would be M. esther. If his criterion does not hold up, this image should be moved to the genus page.
