The genus Bezzimyia is now included in this family (previously placed in Tachinidae).
Numbers
Four species in three genera in N. America: Melanophora roralis, Phyto discrepans, Bezzimyia americana and B. busckii.
Identification
Rhinophorids have a weakly developed subscutellum, narrow calypters, and a closed r5 cell. Melanophora have dark wings, M meeting R4+5 perpendicularly far from wing margin, Phyto have clear wings, M meeting R4+5 obtusely near wing margin.
Range
Eastern and southern U.S., eastern Canada
Life Cycle
All are endoparasites of Isopoda.
Remarks
Melanophora and Phyto are introduced to N. America, probably from Europe.
