Kick boxing leaf beetle - Acalymma trivittatum

Kick boxing leaf beetle - Acalymma trivittatum
Irvine Park, Orange, Orange County, California, USA
February 21, 2007
Beetle evidently picked too good a flower. First, he was beset by an ant, who nibbled at his forelegs. Beetle pushed it away. Ant then tried to graw on a back leg, received a kick in the face, then quit the battlefield. A syrphid arrived and was content to share, until a skipper plopped down directly on the beetle. The beetle stayed in place and was still there fifteen minutes later when I left.
