Whitish Fly

Whitish Fly
Milton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
August 8, 2006

Therevidae
And most likely genus Thereva too. Most flies of this group have indeed a more bright tawny color, or else of a bluish silvery grey one, rather than this whitish tan. That makes this picture all the more interesting.

Thank you. I don't entirel
Thank you.

I don't entirely trust the color. I have some out of focus shots where the fly body is whiter but they still have the tan accents including the legs. Flecks of sunlight were periodically coming through the canopy and shining right on the leaf, and it was hard to set up the shot.
