Grapevine Beetle (dark legs) - Pelidnota punctata

Grapevine Beetle (dark legs) - Pelidnota punctata
Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
July 20, 2014
At light

Info page says it appears southern beetles have light brown legs and northern, dark.

It looks like Delaware has both types, not only in the same state or county, but at the same address.

There's about a quarter mile of Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) across the street. Most trees are
male, but the few female trees there are, are dropping fruit.

Only keeping image of intact specimen for the Guide.

Offhand I don't know the validity of the legs comment. Not sure if that is just a 'BugGuide' observation or published data. Maybe a scarab specialist can comment more...

Moved from ID Request.

thanks for helping
I read it as "iffy", but thought it couldn't hurt to add the
observation in case it isn't.
