Gallnipper, Psorophora ciliata? - Psorophora ciliata - female

Gallnipper, Psorophora ciliata? - Psorophora ciliata - Female
Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, Polk County, Iowa, USA
July 16, 2014
Size: 12 mm (body)
Most mosquitoes at this location were smaller, probably genus Culex. This one was larger and easily distinguished from the others. It also hurt. Color pattern of legs fits Psorophora, as does the ventral abdomen.
