Spined Soldier Bug? - Thyanta perditor

Spined Soldier Bug? - Thyanta perditor
Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, USA
January 30, 2004
This photo was taken at the Frenchman's Forest Natural Area.

I am pretty sure this is a Podisus sp., someone correct if I am wrong:)

It fooled you!
This is actually Thyanta perditor, a relative of the red-shouldered stink bug. Podisus is a predatory genus in which the species of very large stout beaks. This species has a longer, more slender beak adapted for sucking plant juices.

Hard to tell
I am learning there are quite a number of stink bug genera that have those spikes on their "shoulders," so I'd be hesitant to assign any genus name until a real expert looks at it.
