Carabids or what?

Carabids or what?
Derry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA
November 27, 2003
Size: about 17 mm
Found in the woods behind where I lived at that time. I was just beginning to take an interest in larvae. The hefty mandibles thrust forwad like this, plus the long urogomphi, make me think these might be a ground beetle species.
