Topotype of Acrocera stansburyi from the CAS collection - Acrocera stansburyi - male

Topotype of Acrocera stansburyi from the CAS collection - Acrocera stansburyi - Male
Stansbury Island, Tooele County, Utah, USA
July 13, 1913
An interesting species with vittate mesonotum. The abdominal pattern appears to be basically the same as that described by Cole for A. convexa, but that species has a uniformly black mesonotum.

The original description of Acrocera stansburyi, written by C. W. Johnson in 1923, can be found here. Images of the type specimen from the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology can be accessed here.

Sabrosky (1948) remarked that:

"A number of specimens, including the type series, have been seen from several different collections, all bearing the same data, Stansbury Island, Utah, June 13, 1913 (Hagan-Titus), and oddly enough all males."

Indeed, the specimen here, photographed at the California Academy of Science insect collection, is also a male with the same collection data. In 1948 Sabrosky remarked that no specimens were known to him from any other locality. I wonder if that's still the case?
