Trichopoda

Trichopoda
Keene, Johnson County, Texas, USA
August 7, 2014
Size: About 1/2 inch long
First time I have seen one of these. I believe it is a fly, but what type? Although there were flowers nearby, it spent all its time in the willow leaves. Very nervous activity, not spending much time in one place.

Looks like the male of this:

Looks like something in Trich
Looks like something in Trichopoda, the feather-legged flies, within the tachinid fly family (Tachinidae). Note the lovely fringed chaps on this fly's legs!
