Moth? Butterfly? What kind? - Psychomorpha epimenis

Moth? Butterfly? What kind? - Psychomorpha epimenis
Elm Fork Preserve, Carrollton, Dallas County, Texas, USA
March 6, 2007
Size: 3/4 inch
This little one was flying about, landing, and sucking water (or minerals) off rocks. It was hard to capture, so these images are not the best. It was quite colorful, and the iridescense (sp?) on the wings is visible in one shot. Any help with ID is appreciated.

Moth.
This is the "grapevine Epimenis." Genus is Epimenis, don't recall the species. This is a common and conspicous species in early spring in the eastern U.S.

Grapevine Epimenis
I think you meant Psychomorpha epimenis - which I imagine you realized as soon as you clicked "Post comment." I'm jealous -- we have to wait another month for these guys in Missouri.

Thank you both...
for the info. I had never seen one of these before, and was quite excited as it was so beautiful and interesting. Thanks.

Oh.
This is why I seldom comment on moth images....
