Size: 34.8 mm wingspan
The newly emerged adult looks to be a
Melanolophia
--possibly
M. signataria
? I would love to get an expert opinion. Thanks!

going by the "flying seagull" mark visible near the inner margin.

Thanks for the input Peter. Reading Beadle & Leckie, it looks like both
canadaria
and
signataria
have a doubled PM line at the inner margin, but
canadaria
should show a doubled PM line at the midpoint as well. Since this is a newly emerged individual, the wings are not worn, so I would think that mark should show. But then, I am still quite inexperienced with these, so what do I know...?

Trying to apply what I know
I had learned to look for the "flying seagull," but you are right, it being a newly emerged moth, all markings should be quite distinct and the "seagull" is not. There also is little speckling and mottling on the forewings. And then, some posted
signataria
show a "short-winged flying seagull" near the margin! So, I may be wrong with
canadaria
.
