Thaumatomyia (trifasciata?)

Thaumatomyia (trifasciata?)
Sitka County, Alaska, USA
August 12, 2014
I'm pretty sure this is a Thaumatomyia, and it looks like probably not one that is already on bugguide. T. glabra seems closest, but one of the comments there it seems as though this one is hairy in places it shouldn't be for that species. I'm wondering if trifasciata is a reasonable fit - it's known from a nearby region with somewhat similar climate and the photos I found on-line don't seem to be a terrible fit, but it was hard for me to tell for sure.

One thing I wonder about is the triangle on the head. How variable is this? It seems like the vast majority (maybe all?) of the photos I've looked at of similarly patterned black and yellow Thaumatomyia flies have a much longer triangle extending down to between the antennae. I don't know how variable that might be in principle, however.
