Eristalis transversa
Livingston, Grant County, Wisconsin, USA
August 13, 2014
Size: 1/2 inch or so
I assume from the eyes that this is a fly. Seen nectaring on flowers such as this oxeye sunflower.

I did a little further lookin
I did a little further looking myself and I believe it may be Syrphus opinator. Hope others will confirm or deny that ID. Thanks again.
