Syrphid or Tachinid? - Xanthomelanodes

Syrphid or Tachinid? - Xanthomelanodes
Connecticut, USA
To me it looks like a syrphid but it seems to hold its wings like some of the tachinids I have seen. Can anyone help?

Tachinidae: Xanthomelanodes s
Tachinidae: Xanthomelanodes sp.

No feathered legs
It doesn't seem to be a Trichopoda because it doesn't have feathered legs, despite the resemblance to T. cf. subdivisa in the guide. I am moving it back to family level until we get a more definitive ID.

Roger that--another idea
Good point, Beatriz. I was being careless, just looking at patterns and not at anatomy. I poked around Tachinidae at Insects of Cedar Creek in the same subfamily (PHASIINAE) as Trichopoda, and did see one that looks close, so it perhaps should be kept in mind:
Xanthomelanodes

Just a hypothesis.

Tachinid, Trichopoda, I think
A tachinid, looks like Trichopoda, probably Trichopoda subdivisa.

Tachinid
Thanks Patrick. That photo was the one that started turning me away from syrphid. But I wasn't sure.Dave P.
