Bush Katydid? on Rudbeckia maxima - Scudderia - Male
Between Clearwater and Haysville, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA
August 14, 2014
I'm thinking that this is one of the Scudderia katydids, either S. texensis (my guess), S. furcata, or S. curvicauda. Is there any way to tell for sure from this photo, which is the best I've got of this individual?

definitely Scudderia
but species is tough without a good view of the supra-anal plate, which is mostly hidden here. Having said that, my instinct is that this is S. furcata, but of course I'm not sure.

Thank you so much for your he
Thank you so much for your help. I've been doing my best with digital photos, but it's hard to get decent angles of pertinent anatomy with live specimens in natural conditions. I'll keep trying, especially as I get more familiar with which anatomy is needed for each different type of insect.
