Phantom Midge larva - Mochlonyx

Phantom Midge larva - Mochlonyx
North Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
March 11, 2007
Size: ~5mm
This was wriggling around in a vernal pool that was just starting to thaw. The bottom of the pool still had a thick sheet of ice, and about 6" to 12" of water had formed in the pool.

another
fantastic image

I think it's a
Phantom Midge larva, most similar to Mochlonyx: . It looks REALLY cool though.

Thanks Stephen and Omar!
It looks like a good match with Omar's photo.
