Coppery
Too bad it's a male. The female from this angle is easier to id. But the thickness of the maculations leads me to believe it is a Coppery Tiger beetle --
Cicindela cuprascens
. Here is a photo of one I captured in central Nebraska a couple weeks ago.

Thanks Dave
I agree on the thick maculations but still can't differentiate Sandy from Coppery. This has been a great site in OK since I have sighted six species of tiger beetles here within the last year.

Difficult
They are very difficult to tell apart especially without capture. I was lucky to find both on the same sandbar and my expert friend, Steve Spomer, confirmed the id on the Coppery. Up here the Coppery has thicker neater maculations, is shinier and lighter in color. The Sandy Stream is darker & greener. A week after finding both together I found
C. macra
on another river that proved to be a new county record. Finding
C. cuprascens
is a great find.
