rove beetle - Stenus

rove beetle - Stenus
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
March 14, 2007
Size: 3.5mm
Found under bark in a wet area.

nice pic, should allow for ID!
insofar a key to nearctic species exists. Reminds me of European sp. Stenus (Nestus) humilis, because of short elytra with reduced shoulders. Sure is from same subgenus, characters: penultimate tarsal segment not lobed, tarsi not much longer than half of tibia, lateral edges of abdomen bordered completely.

cheers, Boris
