Disonycha arizonae
I think this could be Disonycha arizonae; which is very similar to D. alternata
a key is found here

Yes, it looks like a Chrysomelid -
and very much like Disonycha alternata (see Evans & Hogue: (1) Plate 279, a photo of a mating pair; description on page 262). There's also a species page on this site (see 1 ).

Incidentally, Arthur Evans, one of the authors, will give a seminar on CA beetles on April 11, at Cal State Fullerton.

Glad to know the genus, even though alternata appears to be an Eastern species. Also thanks for the seminar info.
