I think this could be
Disonycha arizonae
; which is very similar to
D. alternata
a key is found
here

Yes, it looks like a Chrysomelid -
and very much like Disonycha alternata (see Evans & Hogue:

Incidentally, Arthur Evans, one of the authors, will give a seminar on CA beetles on April 11, at Cal State Fullerton.
