Wasp ID [=Sphex? nudus??] Request - Sphex nudus - Female
Herring Run Watershed, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA
August 27, 2014
I observed this wasp burrowing into the ground. My attention was brought to the scene because she audibly buzzed each time she dug a bit. My first thought was she was injured until I realized what she was up to.

While I was searching which of the possible wasps she might be I settled tentatively on S. nudus based off Metrioptera's recent photo submission of the cricket prey of this wasp [=this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/982571].

I attempted to photograph this wasp but her position made that difficult. I did however record a little audio of the buzzing sound she made. To hear it, visit the following link: http://goo.gl/61GeFF/.
