Anisota species -
Anisota senatoria

Thoughts on whether this is
A. peigleri
or
A. senatoria
? I'm leaning toward
A. peigleri
- I really don't see any orange, and it looks pretty spikey.

I'm determining this individual as
Anisota senatoria
and not
A. peigleri
for a couple reasons:
1)Coastal plain locale in MD is not known to support
A. peigleri
(as far as I know), though
A. senatoria
is present
2)Though the spines are rather pronounced, I've seen
A. senatoria
from southern PA that were quite spikey
There may be some integration in the midatlantic and
A. peigleri
is a somewhat poorly understood taxon so what you have here and what I see in southern PA may in fact be different from northern, shorter spined, more orange-striped
A. senatoria
.

Thanks.
What made you decide on
A. senatoria
?
