My little Visitor - Calisoga

My little Visitor - Calisoga
Bay Area County, California, USA
March 18, 2007
Saw something crawling under my door of my dorm room. This spider came to visit. Freaked out my friend. I tried identify it. I think its a tarantula or a wolf spider. Im growing fond of it and named it fuzzy.

Moved
Moved from Tarantulas.

NOT a Tarantula
We've had many, many pics of this species posted on Arachnoboards.com by people thinking that it was a tarantula. While this IS a Mygalamorph spider, it's not a tarantula, but Nemesiidae family member, Calisoga longitarsus, also known as a "Calistoga spider".

Not
sure how you got this one to species, as there are 5 in the area.

*update
I let the little guy go yesterday. I did not want to keep it captive for too long. I let him go somewhere away from the dorms for Fuzzy's safety. But having him for a little while, really made me want to have a type of tarantula as a pet.

identity
How big is the spider? It has a lot of characteristics of a tarantula.
I used to have three tarantula's including a native California spider.
The spider will eat crickets and meal worms if you are keeping it captive. They need water as well. Put a sponge wet with water in a terrarium.

These spiders are fairly smal
These spiders are fairly small as Tarantulas go 1.5-2.0 inches across when mature. They are not often encountered due to the small size and rather secretive habits.

This is one of the small Myga
This is one of the small Mygalomorph tarantulas native to California. It is likely either genus Aptostichus or Apomastus. This is a male and will probably have a limited life span.

tarantula
Fuzzy is a tarantula. Aphonopelma sp., maybe?
