Sawfly? - Coelioxys dolichos - Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, USA August 29, 2014 Size: 18mm
Wasp or sawfly? or what? It was flying about bricks on the side of the house, like a cuckoo or potters wasp does when looking for prey. it does not appear to have haltares, so that makes me think it is not a fly, and mandibles look like they are pretty stout. Hoping for help with an ID.
THANKS,
b
