Different Name in the South
The bug that you refer to as a camel cricket, in North Carolina we call it a "Spider Cricket" and they only come out late evening-and night. They can hop further than normal crickets and their antenna is longer than most crickets.

I've also heard
They hop straight at you instead of away from you as a result of horrible eyesight or something like that. I've got em all over my shed. They are tons of fun to TRY to catch...
