Falcate Orangetip nectaring on crucifer - Anthocharis midea - male

Falcate Orangetip nectaring on crucifer - Anthocharis midea - Male
Williamson County, Texas, USA
March 19, 2007
Falcate Orangetips began appearing in the area in the past week; this was the first one I could photograph...and luckily, a male with the trademark orange tips. The yellow-flowered early crucifer (not sure which species) came out after rain last week, and this individual nectared at four or five flowers in one patch before moving on.

Very pretty butterfly
We have sara orangetip in Southern California. I'll be these are just as tough to photograph. Ours never want to show that orange!

You're so right...
I have several shots of the underwings, trying to catch that moment when he opened them enough to show the orange tips. As for while they're flying...well, it takes a better photographer than me.
