Amphibian Springtail

Amphibian Springtail
De Luz, San Diego County, California, USA
March 6, 2007
While in California I photographed this Pacific Tree Frog. Only when I got home did I notice the tiny critter on the frog's face. Now I wish I had tried to get closer.

As for ID, both Springtail and tiny beetle crossed my mind. My friends at diptera.info identified it as a Springtail. Can any of our Springtail experts take the ID further?

I can't really estimate the size, but this was certainly a very small frog, perhaps similar in size to the Spring Peepers we easterners are familiar with.
