Most likely Aeshna umbrosa
The barring on the legs and the shape of the head point to it being Aeshna umbrosa (Shadow Darner). A picture of the labium would be needed to verify.

I went back to my original photos for this specimen and found a ventral view showing the labium. I hope it is sufficient for a species confirmation. I do appreciate your comment and help thus far.

The picture is just what I needed. The long, narrow labium and the truncate palps give it away. Definitely a Shadow Darner.
