big greenish water strider -
Aquarius remigis
Lucan Conservation Area, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
April 8, 2004
Size: 12-14 mm
Common in spring snowmelt pools in the woods. Upper surface uniformly greenish; no white shoulder stripe.

Gerris remigis
This is probably Gerris (subgenus Aquarius) remigis, our largest water strider, and one of the most widely-distributed. There are winged and wingless individuals within this species, as with most water striders.
