Leaf miners on Meyer lemon - Phyllocnistis citrella

Leaf miners on Meyer lemon - Phyllocnistis citrella
Alameda County, California, USA
September 8, 2014
Several branchlets of a Meyer lemon have become infested with leaf (and stem) miners. I've never seen these mines before in the several years we've had the tree. Damage occurs in many or all leaves on a branchlet rather than on isolated leaves scattered through the tree. The insects mine the upper surfaces of leaves. Where their burrows are, the plant tissue is shiny on both sides of the leaf.
