Snakeroot
But not sure which species, there are 19 in Pennsylvania! Plant habit does not look quite right for Ageratina altissimum [Eupatorium rugosum].

Fuzzy thing
I didn't notice the fuzzy thing in the center (next photo) until I got home. Is it part of the snakeroot, or just some plant below shooting up through the snakeroot? Is it a gall or fruit? Any ideas?

It seems like it must be part of another plant
It wouldn't make any sense for a seedhead to be attached there, and I'm not aware of any galls like that on snakeroot (if that's what this is). I'm not sure what John P. is including under "snakeroot," since there are only two Ageratina species in Pennsylvania.

Ageratina and Eupatorium
I was including these two genera together in my "snakeroot" total.
