Wisconsin Spider - Araneus

Wisconsin Spider - Araneus
Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin, USA
September 11, 2014
Size: 1/2 inch
We have these spiders all over our backyard. Just wondering what type of spider this is and if they are poisonous to human/dogs. I just noticed as I was looking closer at the picture there is another, smaller, spider with long legs - clearly different than the bigger one. Wondering what this smaller one is too!! Thanks!!

These are orb weaver spiders
These are orb weaver spiders of the family Araneidae. They are generally harmless. The one in the upper left is a male and the bottom right is a female. Someone else should be able to give you a more specific ID.
