I was shooting bees, trying to do a flash test, when this butterfly plunked right down next to me. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Finally, I weakened, changed my camera set-up, and shot what's probably my favorite butterfly.

This is about the nicest I've seen and one of the easiest to shoot, as they're so cooperative. Just looked in Butterflies through Binoculars The West, and there don't seem to be any big differences between the two. The book shows Colorado's eastern border as the dividing line, but I vaguely remember a Bug Guide post where these two and the Canadian version were all contenders. Well, you and I have it easier!
