Spider Wasp - Priocnemis oregona - male

Spider Wasp - Priocnemis oregona - Male
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
March 26, 2007
Size: approx 20mm
The abdomen seems too long to be Prionyx. It was hard getting any good shots of it because it was trying to get out of my empty aquarium (which has been serving as a semi-trap for various creatures).

Way off, sorry.
This is not even a sphecid. It is a male spider wasp, most likely Priocnemis oregona, which emerges at this time of year in the Pacific Northwest, and is quite common. I'll create a guide page if Nick Fensler doesn't beat me to it:-) Nice find, may be a new species for the guide.

Dang...
you guys got this moved so fast I didn't even see it! Nice... Priocnemis oregona...now we have all the vernal Priocnemis (subgenus Priocnemissus).

Cool!
I wasn't sure if I wanted to capture it (with my hand), I guess I could have...
